More than a hundred people from the Alliance of Universal Pensions rallied on Sunday outside Government House, demanding the government introduce universal retirement protection.
They accused the Chief Executive Carrie Lam and the Labour and Welfare Secretary Law Chi-kwong of blocking the introduction of a universal pension.
Anthony Lau, the spokesperson of the alliance, said a non-means tested protection scheme is needed to safeguard the quality of retirement life. He said many people weren’t able to get help from the government and a means-tested approach would affect the dignity of the elderly.
